Election Day Reminder: Three Key Questions for Choosing Pro-Business Candidates
Tomorrow is Election Day—a vital chance to exercise your privilege to vote. While the Presidential election often takes the spotlight, your ballot includes many other races that directly impact your life and work, especially if you’re a business owner. In addition to federal races, you’ll be electing leaders for critical state and local offices, including Commissioner of Labor, Secretary of State, Superintendent of Public Instruction, State House and Senate representatives, and local school board members, among others.
These races are important for the future of our local economy and business community. To make an informed choice that aligns with a pro-business perspective and The Chamber of Catawba County’s Legislative Agenda here, consider asking yourself these three strategic questions about each candidate:
1. Does the candidate support economic growth and job creation, particularly for local businesses? For our economy to thrive, it’s essential to have leaders who back policies that foster economic growth. Consider:
- Reducing Regulatory Burdens: Does the candidate promote simplified regulations for businesses?
- Incentivizing Business Development: Are they committed to policies that encourage investment and support small and medium-sized businesses?
- Expanding Workforce Training: Has the candidate supported access to workforce training that helps businesses find skilled employees?
2. What is the candidate’s stance on infrastructure investment? Modern infrastructure is crucial
for keeping businesses competitive and connected. Look for:
- Broadband, Energy, and Water/Sewer Improvements: Does the candidate have plans to advance these critical areas?
- Long-Term Transportation Funding: Are they committed to securing sustainable solutions for funding transportation infrastructure?
3. Does the candidate prioritize educational and workforce development aligned with local business needs? A skilled workforce is the backbone of a strong economy. When assessing candidates, ask:
- Support for Education and Vocational Training: Does the candidate advocate for funding schools and vocational programs that prepare residents for high-demand jobs?
- Partnerships with Local Industries: Do they promote collaborations to align educational programs with employer needs?
- Removing Workforce Barriers: Are they committed to addressing barriers like affordable childcare, essential to workforce participation?
By focusing on these areas, you can identify candidates who align with The Chamber of Catawba County’s pro-business priorities for growth, infrastructure, and workforce readiness.
Additionally, consider each candidate’s experience and track record. Have they owned or operated a business or led a team that required accountability? If they have previously held office, does their voting record reflect consistent support for their stated policies? These insights can provide a valuable perspective on how they may approach issues impacting our local businesses and economy.
As you head to the polls, think about which candidates will best support a vibrant, business-friendly community. Voting is a powerful way to shape the future of our local economy and the business environment. Let your voice be heard!
