On June 26, 2024, we hosted a Ribbon Cutting for Ashure Ministry, who celebrated the expansion of services and the building expansion. Ashure Ministry, formerly Eastern Catawba Cooperative Christian Ministry (ECCCM) was formed in 1969 to help individuals and families facing a crisis situation. They are located at 245 East N. Street in Newton, NC.
In the past, Ashure Ministry served all zip codes except 28601 and 28602. In November 2022, they expanded their food pantry programs and thrift store vouchers due to another ministry closing. In August 2023, they expanded financial crisis assistance to cover anyone living in Catawba County. With this expansion, all services offered by Ashure Ministry are now offered to anyone living in Catawba County. Learn more here.
Additionally, Ashure Ministry is proud to receive a new walk in freezer/cooler from The City of Newton’s Community Development Block Grant. They received an additional grant from the GoldenLEAF Foundation, to have a racking system installed in the units so they can stack and organize pallets of food more effectively. With this addition, Ashure Ministry has been able to add an additional 800 square feet of storage. These new units allow them to continue to serve the whole county as numbers continue to rise.
