Some businesses begin with a market opportunity. Others begin with a deeply personal experience.
For Angela and Chad Shook, owners of SYNERGY HomeCare of Conover, their business was born from a season of life that many families know all too well. As Angela cared for her grandmother, she experienced firsthand the balancing act of supporting a loved one while managing work, family, and everyday responsibilities. It was a role filled with love—but also uncertainty, exhaustion, and moments when simply having someone to help would have made all the difference.
Those experiences planted a seed.
Rather than simply recognizing a need, Angela and Chad chose to become part of the solution by opening a locally owned home care agency dedicated to helping families navigate the challenges of caregiving with compassion, dignity, and support.
Today, SYNERGY HomeCare of Conover provides non-medical home care services that allow individuals to remain safe, comfortable, and independent in the place they know best—their own home. Their caregivers assist with everything from companionship and personal care to dementia support, respite for family caregivers, transportation, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and recovery after a hospital stay.
We asked Angela what she loves most about her work, and the answer came quickly: the relationships.
“Every day brings an opportunity to make someone’s life a little easier—whether that’s giving a family caregiver a much-needed break, helping an older adult maintain their independence, or simply providing companionship to someone who might otherwise spend the day alone. That trust, she says, is something she never takes for granted.“

As a locally owned family business, the Shooks are committed not only to serving individual families but also to strengthening the community they have long called home. Their roots in Catawba County and their desire to care for others continue to shape the way they approach every client relationship.
Angela and Chad look forward to expanding their reach throughout Catawba, Lincoln, and Alexander counties while building partnerships with healthcare providers and community organizations that share a common goal: helping people live safely and independently for as long as possible.
Businesses like SYNERGY HomeCare remind us that behind every storefront is a story. Sometimes that story begins not with a business plan, but with caring for someone you love—and deciding that no family should have to face those challenges alone.
