Building More Than Concrete: The Story of High Country Concrete Services

When Ivan and Daisy Salazar launched High Country Concrete Services in 2021, they weren’t simply starting a business—they were building a future for their family.

At just 22 and 24 years old, the husband-and-wife team took a leap of faith, combining Ivan’s expertise in construction and concrete work with Daisy’s strengths in customer service and business management. Like many entrepreneurs, they started with a dream, a strong work ethic, and a desire to create something meaningful. Their journey was shaped by humble beginnings, a commitment to excellence, and a shared determination to build opportunities for themselves and their four children.

“We were driven and influenced by many factors, but what mostly drove us to achieve excellence—both in and out of our business—was and continues to be our four beautiful children,” Daisy shared.

The inspiration for High Country Concrete Services grew from Ivan’s passion for construction. Having worked in the industry from a young age, he developed experience across multiple trades before discovering a particular appreciation for concrete work. It’s a craft that demands technical expertise, precision, and the ability to work against the clock and the elements to deliver quality results.

Together, Ivan and Daisy recognized an opportunity to provide exceptional concrete services while building lasting relationships with customers throughout the region.

“The road to success has not been easy or linear, but we have never given up,” said Daisy. “We continue to show up every day to provide the best service and attention possible to our customers and community.”

Today, High Country Concrete Services serves both commercial and residential clients throughout the region. Their commercial work includes parking lots, foundations, curb and gutter, ramps, and other large-scale concrete projects for contractors and developers. On the residential side, they provide driveways, patios, sidewalks, and custom concrete solutions. The company also specializes in decorative concrete finishes, including stamped concrete, overlays, epoxy finishes, and other customized designs.

One thing they say that sets High Country Concrete Services apart is its commitment to completing projects from start to finish using its own team members. This turnkey approach allows the company to maintain quality, accountability, and customer service throughout the entire process.

For Ivan and Daisy, however, the most rewarding part of the business isn’t the concrete itself—it’s the people.

“The best part of our work is seeing our customers completely happy with their projects,” they said. “We love it when our customers compliment our work or customer service.”

Looking ahead, High Country Concrete Services is continuing to invest in innovation and customer experience. With a new office and showroom in Hickory, customers can now explore decorative concrete samples and visualize their projects through personalized 3D design renderings before construction begins. The company has also expanded its offerings to include dumpster rentals, creating additional convenience for contractors and property owners alike.

Beyond business, giving back remains a core value for the Salazar family. High Country Concrete Services has donated concrete work to local churches and nonprofit organizations, reflecting a commitment to serving the community and living out their faith.

“We believe giving back—especially to our Lord and Savior—is the basis of everything,” said Daisy. “We strive to live by standards and values that align with our faith, and both our business and personal lives are founded on those beliefs.”

As they continue to grow, Ivan and Daisy remain grateful for the support they’ve received from family, friends, customers, and the community.
